Angered by misfortune he wished to take revenge on the next person he met. He unleashed two guardian tigers upon the maiden. The goddess Diana spared her and turned her into a pure, clear stone. Bacchus regretting his actions poured his wine over the stone, staining the crystal a deep, violet hue. So, the maiden Amethyst lent her name to the crystal.
